The Thai government is planning to set up a “single gateway Internet” that would allow them to control all information going in and out of the country.
September 24, 2015Although a huge 87% of people reportedly don’t know what the Internet of Things is, it’s safe to say that percentage will be decreasing soon. As described by USA Today, the IoT “simply means that an object has sensors embedded in it and the ability to send the data it collects outward, usually via Wi-Fi or the Internet.”
February 1, 2016This week, the Netherlands government publicly announced support for encryption as an essential tool to safeguard online privacy. This announcement reinforced the importance of encryption, and rejected the encryption “backdoors” that are being pushed for in the United States and some other countries around the world.
January 6, 2016WikiLeaks shocked the nation once again this past Tuesday by releasing thousands of documents to the American public, describing ‘secret’ operations performed by the CIA that are used to hack into computers, mobile devices, and much more.
March 8, 2017On October 8, Turkey blocked access to all major cloud services and some major code hosting sites within the country. Sites including Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive and GitHub were all blocked.The blocks were first reported by Turkeyblocks.org, and came in response to government email leaks.
October 9, 2016Several major social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube were blocked or throttled in Turkey beginning Monday night. These blocks came in response to the assassination of the Russian ambassador to Turkey, which occured on Monday. As reported by Turkey Blocks, the Monday blocks were “different” than previous social media blackouts, although it’s unclear in what way.
December 19, 2016Over the weekend, reddit was blocked in Turkey. The Turkish government blocked the site with little explanation, listing on an official site: “After technical analysis and legal consideration … administration measure has been taken for this website.”
