The FCC’s decision comes in direct opposition to what the majority of consumers and businesses want, and the implications for all Internet users are dire.
December 14, 2017Last week, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) implemented a new federal law instituting large fines for using a VPN in the country. This law is among a “series of new federal laws relating to IT crimes,” and can impose a hefty fine of up to almost half a million USD ($545,000) for using a VPN or proxy service for a “fraudulent” purpose.

February 29, 2016Last week, several groups (ACLU, Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International, among others) launched a campaign seeking pardon for Edward Snowden. This campaign asks President Obama to pardon Snowden, the NSA whistleblower whose name has become synonymous with privacy and Internet rights. Snowden currently lives in Russia, where he was granted asylum and has been living since 2013. The call for pardon comes before Obama’s term as President of the United States comes to a close.
September 22, 2016The President of the United States visited Austin this past week to talk technology and innovation at this year’s SXSW festival. This was a historic visit, marking the first time a sitting President attended the event. His appearance surely helped cement this legacy as the first ‘Tech President’ leading the government into a new age of technology, having started the United States Digital Service to upgrade the archaic technology that was in place when he first arrived in office.
