Golden Frog Website Updated to HTTPS to Defeat Chinese Blocking via Deep Packet Inspection
TODO ?>Last week, China updated the Great Firewall and blocked our VyprVPN service. As part of this latest attack, China also blocked the Golden Frog website. We are pleased to inform customers that we have moved the Golden Frog marketing website to HTTPS to unblock our website for users in China. Our signup systems and customer control panel have always been protected by HTTPS and now we have extended this protection to marketing sections of our website. Please use the following URL to access the Golden Frog website:
“It appears that China is using Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) to analyze plain-text web traffic through the Great Firewall. When the Chinese DPI equipment sees requests for Golden Frog websites, they block them. Blocking via DPI is different than a DNS block or network traffic block, because it inspects the underlying web content. Even if the website moves to another server or network, China’s DPI gear still reads the packets going to the new location and blocks the traffic. By converting the entire site to HTTPS, not only is all of your browsing secure, but China can’t inspect the traffic and block specific requests for Golden Frog. We are actively working on other solutions, but moving our website to HTTPS is a solid first step that should clear up issues for most users trying to access our website to signup or manage VyprVPN,” said Sunday Yokubaitis, President of Golden Frog.
We welcome customer feedback and invite users in China to share their experiences in our forum: https://forum.vyprvpn.com/t/access-from-china-share-your-experiences/576/41
